How to get the most out of the backlink checker
Use this tool to uncover link sources, compare competitors, and find patterns in successful backlink profiles.
Compare your backlink profile to competitors
Run checks on your domain and your top three competitors. Compare domain rating, referring domains, and the quality of top backlinks. If a competitor has a DR of 65 and you are at 42, look at where their links come from and what anchor text they use.
Focus on gaps. If they have backlinks from industry directories, resource pages, or guest posts you have not targeted, those become your outreach list. Use the top backlinks list to see which pages on their site attract the most links, then create similar or better content.
Audit a page that ranks well to reverse-engineer its success
Find a page that ranks in the top three for your target keyword. Switch the scope to URL and paste the full address. Check the referring domains and top backlinks. If the page has 30 referring domains and most links use branded or naked URL anchors, you know link quantity and diversity matter more than exact-match anchors.
Look at the domain rating of the linking sites. If most backlinks come from DR 40 to 60 sites, aim for similar targets. If you see a pattern like links from roundup posts or tool directories, replicate that tactic for your own page.
Monitor new competitors or partnerships before outreach
Before you pitch a guest post or ask for a backlink, check the site's domain rating and referring domains. A site with DR 50 and 200 referring domains is a stronger win than one with DR 30 and 20 referring domains, even if traffic looks similar.
Review the top backlinks they already have. If they link out to your competitors but not you, mention that in your pitch. If their backlink profile is thin, your link might carry less weight than you expect, so adjust your effort accordingly.
Track your own domain rating over time
Run a check on your domain once a month and log the domain rating and referring domains count. If you are building links through guest posts, digital PR, or partnerships, you should see both numbers climb. If referring domains go up but DR stays flat, the links you are earning may be low quality.
Use the top backlinks list to confirm your strongest links are still live. If a high-DR backlink disappears, reach out to restore it or replace it. Consistent checks help you catch lost links before they hurt rankings.
